What is Centum Call Seconds?

Centum call second is a unit used in telecommunications to count the entire traffic running in a network. 1 Centum Call Second (CCS) is equal to 100 call seconds. For example 1 CCS can either be two calls of 50 seconds duration each or could it also be 20 calls of 5 seconds duration. The duration is the key parameter and not the number of calls.

"Centum Call Seconds" (CCS) serves as a telecommunications metric utilized for gauging the extent of telephony traffic or the duration of telephone calls within a specified timeframe. The term "Centum" is rooted in the Latin word for hundred, signifying a unit of measurement equivalent to 100 call seconds in this context.

A singular Centum Call Second corresponds to the duration of a solitary telephone call lasting 100 seconds. Therefore, if a telephony system records 500 CCS, it denotes that the cumulative duration of all calls during the designated period adds up to 500 times 100 seconds, or 50,000 seconds.

In telecommunications engineering and planning, CCS finds common application for evaluating the capacity and load on a telephone exchange or network. It establishes a standardized means of articulating call duration, empowering engineers to scrutinize and enhance network performance, strategize for ample capacity, and ensure effective call management.
